Theory, practice,
then the real world.
Knowledge modules (40 cr) cover visual storytelling, production theory and the business of film; practical modules (73 cr) train camera, lighting, directing and editing on real productions; the qualification closes with a 300-hour workplace-integrated learning block (30 cr) and the national EISA exam.
- Knowledge modules
- 40 credits — the theory of the craft, in class and on the learning platform
- Practical modules
- 73 credits — supervised production work in PASMA's studios and labs
- Workplace block
- 30 credits — 300 logged hours in a real workplace
Assessment & the EISA
Occupational qualifications end in the External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA) — a national exit exam, set and quality-assured nationally, not by the college. That is what makes the certificate portable.
Before you can sit it, you submit your Statement of Work Experience: the verified log of your 300 workplace hours. PASMA arranges and supervises the placement.

Who it's for
Visual storytellers who want to shoot, cut and ship real productions — not just write about film.
Who it's not for
Anyone looking for a film-theory or film-studies degree; this is an occupational qualification for people who want to operate the camera and the edit suite.
Asked and answered.
What happened to the old Film & TV qualification?
Legacy NATED/NC qualifications are being phased out nationally. This Higher Occupational Certificate (SAQA 124900) is the accredited successor to the FETC: Film and Television Production Operations, quality-assured by the QCTO with MICTSETA as Assessment Quality Partner.
What will I actually do on this programme?
Plan, shoot, light and edit real productions from the first term, then complete a 300-hour workplace block in a production environment before the national EISA exam.
What is the EISA?
The External Integrated Summative Assessment is the national exit exam for occupational qualifications. Your Statement of Work Experience from the workplace block is required before you can sit it.
